Day Trip to Solvang, CA
If you’re looking for a destination, Solvang, CA, is the perfect spot for a day trip! With its quaint Danish architecture, windmills, and bakeries, Solvang is a whimsical escape that welcomes visitors with furry companions. Recently, I took my two golden retrievers, Gamja and Chip, on a trip to this Danish-inspired town, and it was a memorable adventure for all of us!
A Dog-Friendly Stroll Through Solvang
Our day began with a scenic drive up the California coast, filled with excited tail-wags from the backseat.
Its pet-friendly atmosphere made it easy to explore with dogs by our side. Many shops have water bowls outside, and some even allow leashed dogs to join you inside.
Gamja and Chip were captivated by all the new sights and smells. As we strolled through town, they drew smiles from passersby, enchanted by their joyful faces and wagging tails.
Tasting Treats at the Bakeries (For Both Humans and Dogs!)
A visit to Solvang isn’t complete without stopping by a bakery! Many of Solvang’s bakeries and cafes have outdoor seating, allowing dogs to join while you sample some classic Danish pastries.

Meeting the Ostriches at Ostrichland USA
Just a short drive from Solvang is a quirky and unique stop that’s a must-see – Ostrichland USA. Known for its enormous, friendly ostriches and emus, this open-air attraction is dog-friendly, though it’s wise to keep a close eye on your pets around the curious birds.
Gamja and Chip were mesmerized by the ostriches, watching them with intense focus as they stretched their long necks over the fence. The park provides feed so visitors can get a closer look at these impressive birds.
Wrapping Up Our Solvang Adventure
After Ostrichland, we returned to Solvang to explore a few more nooks and crannies, including some scenic viewpoints with panoramic views of the surrounding wine country. Gamja and Chip were content and tired after all the new experiences, ready for a cozy nap on the way home.
Solvang turned out to be the perfect dog-friendly getaway . It was a trip full of laughter, curious ostrich encounters, and Danish delights.
